About
Daria Tychina is a painter based in Rome. Born in 2001 in Ufa, Russia, she trained in academic drawing and watercolour in Moscow, took a degree in law, and then moved fully into painting. She is completing a BFA in Painting at RUFA, Rome University of Fine Arts.
She works on shaped wooden panels and cut canvas: arches, windows and openings, and blue forms that sit somewhere between a body and a sign.
Statement
I am interested in the moment when something already looks alive but doesn't have a name yet. Most of what we see arrives sorted by language, borders and habits. I try to paint shapes that slip past that sorting for a second: a form that could be a seed or a face, an arch that could be a door or a mouth.
The works look bright, but most of them are about being in between: one country and another, one profession and another, inside and outside a frame.
